About Classes

Q: What are the class times? A: Classes are offered in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. (Note: Summer evening classes are not available.)

Q: What are the class formats available? A: Visalia Adult School offers both in-person classes and distance learning options.

Admissions & Enrollment

Q: How many Visalia Adult School campuses are there? Where are they located?

A: Visalia Adult School operates at various locations. For specific campus information and addresses, please visit our website or call us directly.

Q: What should I bring to my placement testing appointment? A: Please arrive on time for your placement test appointment and remember to bring a valid state-issued photo ID. For High School Diploma students, please bring your most recent transcript if you are new to VAS.

Q: What happens after I complete my placement test?

A:

  • CTE Students: After completing your test, you will be able to pay for your chosen CTE program.
  • HSD, HSE, ABE, and ESL Students: You will meet with a counselor to complete your class registration.

Costs & Financial Aid

Q: What is the cost of tuition?

A:

  • Free Classes: ESL, ABE, GED, and HSD classes are free.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) Classes: Tuition for CTE programs varies by specific program. Please refer to individual program pages on our website for detailed cost information.

Q: Does Visalia Adult School accept financial aid such as FAFSA or Dream Act? A: Visalia Adult School does not accept FAFSA or Dream Act aid directly. For information on alternative payment options and sponsorship opportunities, please visit our Sponsorship page.

Q: What is the refund policy for registration fees?

A: Registration fees are refundable if a student drops a course prior to the first day of class or if the class is canceled by the school. Please note that fees are non-transferable. To request a refund, students must present the original receipt. For credit card reimbursements, please allow 4-6 business days for processing.

Books & Materials

Q: Are textbooks required, and if so, where can I purchase them?

A:

  • General Classes: Teachers will inform you if a textbook is required for your specific class.
  • Career Technical Education (CTE) Classes: Most CTE programs require specific textbooks, which must be purchased.
  • Purchasing Books: Required textbooks are available for purchase at the Visalia Adult School bookstore on the Main Campus. All book sales are non-refundable.

School Policies

Q: Is there a dress code for students?

A: Yes, all students are required to adhere to the Visalia Unified School District (VUSD) dress code policy. Additionally, some Career Technical Education (CTE) Medical Programs may have specific industry-standard dress code requirements.

Q: What is the attendance policy?

A: Students are expected to arrive on time and attend class regularly. If you are absent, it is important to notify your teacher by phone, text, or e-mail. Students with excessive absences may be dropped from their classes. 
Mandatory, and On-Time, first day of attendance is required for all CTE classes. Students will be dropped from the class, if the students is absent or late on the first day. Absolutely no refunds if the student does not meet this mandatory requirement.

Q: What is the school's policy on tobacco, alcohol, and drugs?

A: The use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs is strictly prohibited on all school campuses, in accordance with State law and Board Policy.

Q: Are weapons allowed on campus?

A: No, weapons of any kind are prohibited, including attire that could be used as a weapon.

Q: Are there rules about displaying gang-related apparel or symbols?

A: Yes, displaying apparel, accessories, insignias, signs, or tattoos that are viewed as indicators of gang affiliation is not permitted
